Stage one: Out with the old

Out with the old.
To start with ill be doing as much as i can at home on the jetty so when i do finally slip it ill save some time on the hard stand. I crawled into the fly bridge and disconnected all the wires from the back of the gauges. I stripped the gauges out and all the wiring down to the motors. Disconnected fuel lines, exhaust and shaft couplings. All this was done carefully as i am selling the old motors on eBay. This wasn't a very hard job and only took a couple of hours. By the way i have no downstairs steering station. While i was going i stripped out any wiring that wasn't needed, hot water system, plumbing and an old inverter i found underneath the steps.

Jackel re-power starts/ the story of a 28ft Bertram re-power

Project 28ft Bertram re-power commences.

After owning my 1985 Bertram 28 for 2 years I've finally began the exciting task of putting in 2 new Yanmar motors. I bought the boat knowing that the old V8s were on their last legs and re-powering was always on the cards. I love the old Bertram's and i wanted a small diesel powered fly-bridge sports fishing boat. The boat is in very good condition for its age and only had one previous owner. I decided to do this blog to show others who are interested in doing a re-power what is involved. I will do my best to provide photos and any information i can including cost from start to finish.
